Page to Post: The Companion by Katie Alender

In the Page to Post series, the Teen Book Guild spotlights the books that caught our attention after scoping out an entire shelf of titles in the Winter Park Library. From that first spark of interest to how we really felt after reading, you’ll get our honest take—no sugarcoating, just real talk from teens who love books (or sometimes don’t!).

If you’re looking for your next great read or just want to see if our choice was worth it, stick around. Let’s dive into the world of stories, one shelf and one book at a time.

Title: The Companion
Author: Katie Alender
Chosen by: Andres J.

If I had to pick a genre for this book:

Mystery

Why I picked it:

I have always liked mystery books and this one looked really interesting for me and caught my attention

Brief synopsis (no spoilers!):

Margot loses her family in a tragic accident, so the Sutton family adopts her and their only request is for Margot to be their daughter Agatha's companion. Agatha suffers from a strange illness that doesn't let her talk, and that didn’t seem like a hard thing for Margot to deal with. But the house hides sinister secrets and an illness may not be what Agatha suffers from.

Swoon Factor:

2 - "Slight Spark" - There’s a hint of something, maybe a crush or a shy glance. The romance is subtle and might be more about potential than actual sparks.

Rating my choice:

5 - "Obsessed!" - This book is EVERYTHING. It’s your new favorite, you’re gushing about it to everyone, and you might even reread it someday!

My take on this book:

I will say it, that this book might be the best book that I have ever read because this book really played with my emotions while I read it. It made me feel intrigued, scared, curious, and happy. And the way the author relates everything and creates tension is just amazing. This is a 5-star book for me.
